Why This Solution?
Material handling can make or break a CNC system's throughput capacity. Elimination of manually moving section sizes is critical when labor, and safety are of utmost importance. Peddinghaus' ingenuity in regards to material handling combined with the flexibility of Roller Measurement allows for benefits that permit fabricators to cut costs even in the most competitive of markets.

Overall Features
The biggest, strongest, and fastest material handling on the market is Peddinghaus material handling. Peddinghaus machines ensure a complete process from start to finish. This means a streamlined material feed into the system, and expedited removal of completed parts after production.

Material handling is available for all of the following systems or applications:
  • Material handling of structural sections (beams, channels, angles, square/rectangular tubes, flat bar) for CNC drilling machines, coping machines, layout marking machines, band saws, and thermal processors
  • Material handling of angle and flat bar for CNC punching and shearing lines
  • Material handling of plate (pre and post production)

Minimized Crane Handling

Minimized Crane Handling
Minimizing crane lifts within production in turn maximizes productivity, and reduces situations where employees may be harmed by material in motion.
Minimized Crane Handling

Crane handling has long been known as a "spectator sport" within modern shop facilities. Rarely does work continue to be done within the lifting zone of a structural section, or detail component.

Employees take a step back, ensure they are clear of the hazard, and watch as material is handled. Minimizing crane lifts within production in turn maximizes productivity, and reduces situations where employees may be harmed by material in motion.

Lower Manual Intervention

Lower Manual Intervention
The less times an employee is required to come into contact with a section, the faster production is achieved
Lower Manual Intervention

Whether it's a plate machine, angle line, or structural system, the less times an employee is required to come into contact with a section, the faster production is achieved.

Angle lines can have material fed with cross transfers, and unloaded with automation while plate machines have several options for removing material from the operating area of a machine all without an employee ever touching a piece of steel, or entering the operating area of the machine.

Modular Design

Modular Design

The Peddinghaus Roller Feed design of material measurement allows for an array of material handling options. With Peddinghaus, measurement happens at the machine, eliminating separate carriage or gripper feed mechanisms. This allows for total layout flexibility.

Peddinghaus conveyors can be quickly expanded, split apart, transferred across from either side (datum or non datum), and modified with no sacrifice in machine accuracy or functionality. The elimination of unnecessary mechanism also allows for superior durability, as Peddinghaus material handling can be easily stored outside in any climate. In addition, the modular design of Roller Measurement gives fabricators the ability to expand their production on an as needed basis as business dictates, allowing for unmatched potential.

Structural Sections

The Peddinghaus method of handling structural sections allows for substantial efficiency advancements in both existing, and new systems. Systems for the handling of structural sections are designed for the movement of profiles to be processed in line with a band saw, thermal processor, drill line, or CNC layout machine.

Quiet Glide Lift & Carry Cross Transfers

Peddinghaus quiet glide lift and carry cross transfers are powered using advanced hydraulics, and are capable of lifting material to transfer laterally in a structural system. These transfers are commonly used as sorting stations, loaders, unloaders, and transfer methods from one operation to the next in a structural system.

Lift and carry systems such as the Quiet Glide from Peddinghaus allow for the crossing of datum lines with ease. These systems are available in a minimum length of 4.5M (15') sections, and expandable in increments of 1.5M (5') to fit the need of any structural system to a maximum of 24M (80') in length.
  Robust Conveyer Modules

Robust Conveyer Modules

Peddinghaus Roller Conveyor Modules are designed to last.

Machined from solid cold rolled material, these roller modules are of superior strength when compared to welded, or hollow conveyor rollers available with other systems on the market today.

Available in 3M (10'), 1.5M (5'), and 600 mm (2') section sizes, these structural material conveyor modules are also available in Heavy Duty (sections in up to 1262 kg/m (848 lbs/ft)) or Standard Duty (sections up to 446 kg/m (300 lbs/ft)) support capacities.

Econoslide Offloading Systems

For the simple offload of materials from a structural system, Peddinghaus provides the option of Econoslide offloading systems. the Econoslide serves the sole purpose of offloading materials from a structural line, to allow the operator to continue processing steel on the system in question, with no stop in production.

Powered by 2 robust hydraulic cylinders, the Peddinghaus Econoslide is capable of moving sections a maximum distance of 1575 mm (62") from the datum line of conveyor.

Angle Line Handling

Peddinghaus Material Handling
Angle line production operates as a standalone system from typical structural lines.
Angle Line Handling

Angle line production operates as a standalone system from typical structural lines, but this does not mean that material handling efficiency is not an option! Automating the loading, advancement, and unloading of material on these machines can mean major efficiency increases and ensures optimal throughput of the Peddinghaus CNC angle line.

  Automated Loaders
Automated Loaders
Once in operation, the machine will be able to run continuously.
Automated Loaders

An automated loading system eliminates the need to continually load material with the assistance of a crane. Typically the automated loading system is loaded at the beginning of the day according to the cut list given to the operator. Once in operation, the machine will be able to run continuously as the operator can easily feed the machine using a pendant control stationed near the operating station of the machine.

Automated loaders for angle lines are available in 3.6M (12') lengths and utilize a chain transfer method of motion.
  Automated Unloaders
Automated Unloaders
Components at lengths exceeding 1200 mm (4') can be transferred and sorted using automation.
Automated Unloaders

Upon completion of the production process, components at lengths exceeding 1200 mm (4') can be transferred and sorted using automation. Referencing the commands entered into the control by the operator, the angle line will be able to unload components into predetermined bins for ease of sorting. Commonly this equates to a single crane lift to remove multiple parts, as opposed to lifting each component from the machine in sequence.
  Powered Material Advance

This allows the operator to remain at the control station for faster production, and a safer work environment.
Powered Material Advance

The Peddinghaus Roller Feed system can be enhanced so that material is powered into the machine using automation. The operator simply has to initiate the powered material advance, and send it into the operating area of the angle line in question. This allows the operator to remain at the control station for faster production, and a safer work environment.

Plate Handling

Peddinghaus plate machines take full advantage of the benefits offered via Roller Measurement by eliminating the need to manually lift parts from a cutting table, or continually load a gripping/clamping system throughout production. Two options are available for Peddinghaus Plate machines to optimize the material handling process, a side unloading conveyor, and a front end unloading conveyor system.

  Side Unloader
Side Unloader
As zones of parts are cut on the Peddinghaus plate processor, they are unloaded via dump table onto the conveyor.
Side Unloader

When space is a consideration the side unloading parts conveyor will deliver parts to an ergonomic height directly to the operator for sorting. As zones of parts are cut on the Peddinghaus plate processor, they are unloaded via dump table onto the conveyor.

The operator has the option to initiate the conveyor and have parts moved to an ergonomic height outside of the operating area of the machine. The operator can then sort and handle parts as needed whilst the machine maintains operation, maximizing efficiency.

This side unloading system is available with Peddinghaus CNC plate processors in 1800 and 2500 width sizes.
  Front End Unloader
Front End Unloader
Available as an alternative to the side unloading conveyor.
Front End Unloader

The Front End Unloader conveyor system is comprised of two roller transfer modules, each 2 Meter (6') in length, and a front end unloading belt, designed to streamline the handling of finished parts by conveying them from the operating area to a convenient unloading area. This option comes equipped with an automated retract system which allows for easy access to the operating area and scrap cart beneath the machine.
